About UVT
The university that defines the spirit of Timișoara
In the heart of Timișoara, an active and innovative academic hub is pulsing — West University of Timișoara (UVT). It is one of the universities that energises the city and defines its young spirit.
UVT is woven into the life of the city in a way that few universities in Romania can claim. Its students bring life to the halls of performance halls and cafes on Bulevardul Revoluției, clubs organise events in the city’s cultural spaces, researchers collaborate with local institutions, and athletes represent Timișoara in national and continental competitions.
With 12 faculties, over 16,000 students, 700 teaching and research staff, 81 bachelor’s programmes, 96 master’s programmes and 26 doctoral fields, UVT offers one of the most complete academic ecosystems in Romania. And it keeps growing: new programmes in Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Applied Sciences in Forensics, Game Art & Design and even an MBA have been launched recently, responding directly to market needs.
UVT is also known for something harder to quantify: an ethos of openness. The university runs some of the most developed diversity and inclusion programmes in Romania, from support for visually impaired students, tactile guides, Braille signage and tactile replicas of artworks, to financial assistance for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

What makes UVT different?

The only MBA programme of this type in western Romania, a master’s degree in Business Administration run in partnership with UWL and leading to an internationally recognised degree.

In European and International Law and in Clinical Psychology — two double-degree tracks that give graduates qualifications from two European universities at the same time.
Unique master’s programme in Romania
Military Social Work — A university master’s study programme unique in the Romanian academic landscape, organised by the Department of Social Work within UVT.
Cybersecurity laboratory

The first university in western Romania to operate a fully integrated TV and podcast studio at professional standards, available to Journalism, Communication and Media students from the first year.
Green UVT
Active sustainability programmes: the Urban Garden, the Green Ideas Hub, photovoltaic panels, circular economy projects in dormitories and funding for green businesses through Romania Start-Up Plus.

A campus woven into the city's life
UVT campuses are distributed across Timișoara, not closed inside their own perimeter, which means that student life happens in the city, not next to it. The Student Complex neighbourhood is one of the most vibrant student spaces in Romania, while other faculty buildings are located directly in the city’s pedestrian centre.

The future sounds bright
- Campus Ghiroda: an area of 10.500 sqm intended for the construction of two new student dormitories, with 324 modern accommodation places, reading rooms, coworking spaces, multifunctional areas for sports and recreation, and outdoor terraces;
- A new Sports, Educational and Research Campus, replacing the former Dimitrie Leonida Technological High School in Timișoara;
- UVT High School in Dumbrăvița and an educational and research hub, intended for training tomorrow’s teachers, researchers and specialists.

- A faculty dedicated to sport, with its own infrastructure, including swimming pool, multisport halls and outdoor fields;

UniVibes, the only university music festival in Romania
Once a year, the UVT campus turns into a concert stage. UniVibes is the only music festival in Romania organised by and inside a university, reflecting UVT’s commitment to culture as an integral part of academic life, not an add-on.
Student organisations and civic life
OSUT, the Student Organisation of UVT, and SAS, the Student Entrepreneurial Society, is among the most active student organisations in Romania. Together, they organise career events, entrepreneurship programmes, volunteering initiatives and cultural projects.
UVT supports dozens of student clubs, from debates and creative writing to sport, theatre and social entrepreneurship.

UNITA European University Alliance
UVT does not only participate in European academic networks, it coordinates them. UNITA connects universities in southern and eastern Europe through joint teaching, shared research, a virtual campus, mobility beyond Erasmus and summer schools.
Programmes in foreign languages
UVT offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programmes in English and other languages, especially in social sciences, economics and technical fields. International Erasmus exchange students have access to a broad catalogue of English-taught courses every semester.

Excellent value for a world-class education
UVT offers both state-funded places, with zero tuition fees and awarded based on admission results, and fee places. Exact tuition fee amounts must be confirmed directly with the UVT secretariat, as they vary depending on the programme, study level and funding category.
